Beach and Parking: Most
towns require that residents display a sticker on their car in order to gain access to
parking facilities and beaches. These stickers may be obtained at town halls, police
stations, and some banks upon proper identification of residence and local automobile
registration. There is usually a modest fee.
Boats: All boats with motors and sailboats must be registered. You
need to show proof of ownership at the Motor Vehicle Department and pay a property tax at
the time of registration.
Drinking Age: The legal drinking age in Connecticut is 21. Proper
identification is either a Connecticut driver's license or a liquor purchases card
obtained from the registry of Motor Vehicles.
Dogs: Licenses are required and may be obtained from the town clerk.
Proof of rabies vaccination is required to get a license.
Fishing/Hunting: Hunting and fishing licenses are required
for all persons who hunt or fish in Connecticut. Licenses are issued by city or town
clerks. Costs vary depending on the type of license. Further information can be obtained
through the Department of Environmental Protection.
Guns: Pistol permits are issued by local police departments and are
valid only within that jurisdiction. Statewide permits may be obtained through the state
police. In Connecticut, a mandatory jail sentence and $5,000 fine is imposed on anyone
illegally carrying a handgun or other firearm. For further information on permits and
regulations, contact your local police department.
